Springbrook, proud employer of the very best essential direct support professionals in the area, will have their first-ever car parade on Thursday, April 2nd, at 1:30 p.m. The event will take place at Springbrook’s Main Campus at 105 Campus Drive, Oneonta, NY 13820. Springbrook will also host their first Community Homes Front Porch Fun Friday on April 3rd, at 10:00 and 11:00 a.m. at participating community home locations. A live stream will take place on the organization’s Facebook page.
These events will build community and bring joy and celebration while ensuring that participants stay safe and healthy. This occasion will also function as a thank you to all of Springbrook’s direct support professionals, who are all essential staff working during these difficult times to deliver support for residents and students who choose Springbrook.
In support of World Autism Awareness Day, all attendees are highly encouraged to wear blue in recognition of Autism Awareness month. Springbrook expects a great turnout of more than 50 cars in the parade. Students will get to enjoy the show of decorated vehicles passing in front of their homes on Springbrook’s main campus while maintaining all social distancing protocols currently in effect. Director of the Golisano Program Traci Lanner, shares, “I believe this is a great event to kick off Autism Awareness month. It is also a safe way for students to experience the joys of a parade in a manner that limits any unnecessary exposure to illness, as our student’s health and safety is our main priority.”
For Springbrook’s Community Homes Residents, staff will be coordinating Community Homes Front Porch Fun. At 10 and 11 a.m., residents and staff at each community home will be spending time on their front porch, picking themes, dressing up, and readying for you to drive by to wave and shout “hello.” This event is another excellent way for staff and residents to engage with the community while slowing the spread of the Coronavirus. Be sure to drive by and say hello, so everyone knows that even while we practice social distancing, you are not alone, and this community is there for one another.
