World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD) is a global awareness day formally recognized by the United Nations. On this day, the worldwide Down syndrome community comes together, speaking as one to advocate for disability justice, inclusion, and the welfare of people with Down syndrome. Trisomy 21, or Down syndrome, affects the arrangement of chromosomes in the human genome and occurs naturally in about one in every 1,000 people around the world.

You can join the #LotsOfSocks campaign by wearing your most colorful socks, a mismatched pair, or multiple pairs of socks to raise awareness on World Down Syndrome Day. Socks get people talking! When someone asks you about your socks, it allows you to share your story, experience, and knowledge, and advocate on behalf of yourself, a friend, or a family member with Down syndrome on this day and every day!
