Springbrook will host the 7th Annual Springbrook Invitational Special Olympics Basketball Tournament on Saturday, March 30 from 9 am to 3 pm. The tournament is free, and the public is invited to attend.

The Springbrook Invitational is a round-robin style competition consisting of eight teams, with athletes from Broome, Tompkins/Cortland, Schenectady, Saratoga, and Edmeston, as well as Springbrook’s own Varsity and Junior Varsity teams. In addition to the traditional tournament style play, Skills athletes will demonstrate their basketball proficiencies in two rounds of competition.

Games will be held at Springbrook’s Main Campus, as well as Springbrook’s Community Campus, with an opening ceremony commencing at 9 am in the gymnasium on the Main Campus at 105 Campus Drive, Oneonta, NY. Due to the high volume of participants this year, teams will be separated into divisions and will compete accordingly. Division 1 teams, as well as Skills athletes, will compete at Springbrook’s Main Campus, beginning at 9:30 am. Division 2 teams will compete at Springbrook’s Community Campus at 5588 State Hwy 7, Oneonta, NY. Division 2 games will begin at 10 am. Medal ceremonies will follow the tournaments at their respective locations.

Nicole Valentine-Sokolowski, Special Education Teacher, and Springbrook Athletic Co-Coordinator had this to say: “I can’t believe this will be the 7th year of the basketball invitational. It’s been amazing to watch our athletes grow over the years and watch new members blossom.  It’s a great tradition to host outstanding talent and watch the Springbrook athletes work hard on the court. I couldn’t be more proud.”

Springbrook’s Special Olympics Program is host to a basketball, soccer, and track & field team and is 100% donor funded. The program is made possible thanks to the generous support of sponsors who give to make a difference in the lives of people with developmental disabilities.
