Oneonta, NY: Springbrook will host the 10th Annual Springbrook Special Olympics Basketball Invitational on Saturday, March 29, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The tournament is free, and the public is invited to attend. The Springbrook Invitational is a round-robin style competition. In addition to the traditional tournament style play, athletes also compete in skills competitions.

An opening ceremony will commence at 9:45 a.m. in the Alumni Field House on the SUNY Oneonta Campus at 108 Ravine Parkway, Oneonta, NY 13820. Seth Haight, chief operating officer at Springbrook, will open the tournament with words of gratitude for the staff, volunteers, and athletes who made the tournament possible. All games will be held in the Alumni Field House. The skills competitions will be held in the G. Hal Chase Gymnasium at 88 Ravine Parkway, Oneonta, NY 13820. Medal ceremonies will follow the tournament at their respective locations.

Jon Philby, adaptive physical education teacher at The School at Springbrook, had this to say, “It is hard to believe that this is Springbrook’s 10th Annual Special Olympics Basketball Invitational! This year we are hosting it at SUNY Oneonta which provides us with the exciting opportunity to host more teams and to provide skills athletes their own space to perform. I can’t wait to see everyone come together for this year’s tournament!”

Rachael Scoones, recreational therapist and Springbrook athletic coordinator, added, “We are hopeful that the 10th Annual Springbrook Basketball Tournament is going to be the best one yet! With the new location and more teams than ever, it is going to be an exciting day celebrating all of the athletes’ accomplishments.”

Springbrook’s Special Olympics Program is host to a basketball, soccer, and track & field team and is 100% donor funded. The program is made possible thanks to the generous support of sponsors who give to make a difference in the lives of people with developmental disabilities.
