It is almost the end of National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM), and we are highlighting one more supported employment success story. Emily began her career at Price Chopper in March 2022, when she started volunteering to bag groceries. Since then, Emily has progressed to work the night shift and does bagging, stocking items, and arranging displays and aisles to look pristine. Emily is loved throughout the Price Chopper store for her impeccable eye for detail and how quickly she picks up new skills. The store manager, Bill, shares, “Emily is a wonderful employee. We all notice when she is not here because the store is not nearly as neat and tidy. Working at Price Chopper has been an excellent opportunity for Emily to develop skills that put her in a job-holding position, which is the goal of supported employment.” Emily has been working with Employment Specialist Mary for eight years. Mary shared that she is proud of Emily’s progress but is especially happy that she has become more comfortable showing her personality and socializing with customers and coworkers.
