In January, Springbrook celebrated ten years of providing employment services for people with disabilities. Within this milestone, we are highlighting Casia, who was the first person to enroll in employment services at Springbrook and is now celebrating her ten-year milestone. Casia started her journey with Springbrook when she was fifteen, beginning at The School at Springbrook. After graduating from The School at Springbrook, Casia enrolled in employment services in January 2014. Now, she works at McDonald’s two to three days a week. Casia is confident in her skills, impeccably maintaining the lobby and dining space, and shares that she “grew up in this job” and is proud to be a consistent and reliable employee. She has a great working relationship with the store manager, John, who she considers an “easygoing, supportive, and pleasant” manager. John is grateful for Casia and shares, “It has been an adventure to work with Casia. She is personable, knows what she’s doing, and the customers love her.”
Casia is grateful for the support system she created at Springbrook, including employment coach Erin Branigan. Erin and Casia have been working together for two years and immediately clicked. They enjoy talking about music and TV shows, and Erin shares, “Casia is a lovely human being, and it is a joy to come to work with Casia.” Erin advocates for Casia, helping to resolve any obstacles for her, including interpersonal issues or communication while on the job. Together, they hone in on the positives in Casia’s life, emphasizing the little things that make her happy, like music, food and drinks, and TV shows.
