Springbrook To Host the 11th Annual Special Olympics Basketball Invitational
Oneonta, NY: Springbrook will host the 11th Annual Springbrook Special Olympics Basketball Invitational on Sunday, March 29, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The tournament is free, and the public is invited to attend. The traditional tournament style play will also include athletes competing in Skills competitions.
An opening ceremony will commence at 9:45 a.m. in the Alumni Field House on the SUNY Oneonta Campus at 108 Ravine Parkway, Oneonta, NY 13820. The tournament will open with words of gratitude for the staff, volunteers, and athletes who made the tournament possible. All games will be held in the Alumni Field House. The skills competitions will be held in the G. Hal Chase Gymnasium at 88 Ravine Parkway, Oneonta, NY 13820. Medal ceremonies will follow the tournament at their respective locations.
Jon Philby, Adapted Physical Educator and Special Olympics Co-Athletic Coordinator at The School at Springbrook, shared, “I’m very excited to see the energy and competition the athletes will bring this year.”
Rachael Scoones, recreational therapist and Springbrook athletic coordinator, added, “I am looking forward to seeing all the talent, exciting competition, sportsmanship, and unforgettable moments.”
Springbrook’s Special Olympics Program is host to a basketball, soccer, floorball, and track & field team and is fully donor funded. The program is made possible thanks to the generous support of sponsors who give to make a difference in the lives of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
