The Springbrook Scorpions Special Olympics Soccer Team will host tryout sessions on Tuesday, August 6th or Thursday, August 8th from 6:00 – 7:30 pm. Tryouts will take place at the School at Springbrook Soccer Field, 105 Campus Drive, Oneonta, NY. Tryouts are for the Individual Skills Team as well as the Competitive Team; prospective players need only attend one session.

All athletes are asked to please come dressed in proper soccer attire: a t-shirt and shorts. Shin guards and soccer cleats are required for athletes trying out for the Competitive Team only. Please bring a water bottle. Athletes who do not come wearing the proper attire will not be permitted to participate. Team members are also required to have an up-to-date medical consent form, which can be found on Springbrook’s website. If an individual has not played on any Special Olympics teams or it has been three years since they signed their last consent form, they must complete a new form and bring it to their first practice.

The Springbrook Special Olympics Program is open to people who are 8-years-old and older and have been identified by an agency or professional as having an intellectual disability, a cognitive delay as determined by standardized measures or face significant learning or vocational challenges resulting from cognitive delays that require specially-designed instruction. Athletes do not need to receive services from Springbrook in order to participate.

“I am super excited to start the soccer season this year. It is my favorite season!” said Jon Philby, Springbrook Athletic Co-Coordinator. “With all the hype from our [recent trip to the 2018 Seattle] USA Games, we are excited to see a big turnout and new faces…let’s go Scorpions!”

For athletes who will participate in the season—Individual Skills Team practices will be held Tuesdays from 6:00 – 7:00 pm starting on August 13th, and Competitive Team practices will be held Mondays and Thursdays from 6:00 – 7:30 pm starting August 12th.
