Springbrook Hosts Successful Miles for a Mission 5K Event
Springbrook hosted a Miles for a Mission 5K event at Mirabito Stadium in Binghamton, NY on Saturday, September 28, 2024. The event welcomed over 100 participants, including both runners and walkers, and featured a variety of local sponsors, vendors, and collaborators, making it a truly memorable day for the community.
The 5K was held in collaboration with Congressman Marc Molinaro’s ThinkDIFFERENTLY initiative. We received generous support from sponsors such as AirTemp, National Floor Center, Confluence Running, Excellus, 98.1 The Hawk, Chobani, and more. Attendees enjoyed food from Nirchi’s Pizza in the racers’ private lounge area, and browsed local vendors like Kim’s Creations, LLC and RunFit Peak Performance.
Springbrook’s CEO, Patricia E. Kennedy, was thrilled with the success of the event, stating:
“What an amazing turnout for Springbrook’s 5K event. Springbrook provides outstanding support for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and hopes to continue expanding to communities across New York State. We love our work and being part of the communities that support those we serve.”
The race saw strong competition, with standout performances from both male and female runners.
The top three male finishers were:
Joseph Squillacioti (16:12.48)
Matthew Jacob (16:14.65)
Steve Esposito (16:29.18)
For the female racers, the top finishers were:
Rachel Johnson (21:30.37)
Gabrielle Grenchus (25:53.93)
Heather Jones (27:17.17)
In addition to these winners, ten others were recognized across various age groups, ranging from 12 and under to 70+.
Kim Johnson, Springbrook’s Director of Giving, shared her excitement about the event’s success, saying:
“We were thrilled with Springbrook’s first 5K in the Binghamton area. From the incredible support of Springbrook’s sponsors to the perfect weather and an amazing turnout, I was so appreciative of all participants for the success of the event. We’re already looking forward to next year!”
The event raised over $12,000. Funds raised will go toward supporting Springbrook’s programs and services for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD).
Springbrook extends its heartfelt thanks to all the sponsors, vendors, participants, and volunteers who helped make this inaugural Binghamton area 5K event a success. We are excited to build on this momentum and look forward to hosting another 5K.
