As most around The School at Springbrook and its campus know, Kim MacPherson embodies the strength and spirit of Minnie Mouse—she has done so over a 25-year career at Springbrook. Kim started her career as a classroom aide at Springbrook on the Main Campus. After a few trials in various positions around the organization, she returned to the campus as a shift coordinator at Sunshine House, where she later became a manager. For the past 13 years, Kim has held the position of assistant program director of the GEMS program at The School at Springbrook. For much of her career, Kim worked with Jeffrey Edelstein; today, she works with Traci Lanner and Adam Remillard, both directors at the school.

As a director, Kim’s focus is ultimately on the kids at the school, but her current goal is to enhance her staff. In creating a solid team of staff within the school, on-campus homes, and in programming, Kim believes that together staff can ensure that the lives of the kids supported here can learn to live to their “highest level of independence as possible in the community [after graduation].” Today, Kim understands the importance of her role, and the role of others, in making this possible. While she admits that this has taken a long time and great observation to learn, she is dedicated to supporting her staff and their development to help them understand their importance as it enhances the growth of the students. Because, she adds, this growth will “open the students’ adult world—a phase they’ll spend the rest of their lives in—giving them more choice.”

Thank you, Kim, for everything you do. Congratulations on 25 years of service to our staff, students, and community.
