Springbrook hosted the 7th Annual Springbrook Invitational Special Olympics Basketball Tournament on Saturday, March 30. The free event featured a round-robin style competition consisting of eight teams, with athletes from Broome, Tompkins/Cortland, Schenectady, Saratoga, and Edmeston, as well as Springbrook’s own Varsity and Junior Varsity teams. In addition to the traditional tournament style play, Skills athletes demonstrated their basketball proficiencies in two rounds of competition.
Games were held at Springbrook’s Main Campus, as well as Springbrook’s Community Campus. The National Anthem was delivered enthusiastically by Springbrook Scorpion Jason Le Beau, accompanied by School at Springbrook Music Therapist Darcy Perez, followed by the Special Olympics Athletes Oath, led by Springbrook Scorpion Kimberly Marra.
Competition in both gymnasiums was intense but respectful. The athletes displayed skill, sportsmanship, and above all, enjoyment!
