STEP Introduces Our New DSP Micro-Credentialing Program Through SUNY Oneonta

Now Available – DSP Credentials I and II

Embarking on a new educational journey can be daunting. Here at Springbrook, we want you to reach your goals, especially when it comes to education. DSP credentialing could be the first step in your educational journey.

The State University of New York, OPWDD, and the National Association of Direct Support Professionals have partnered to offer DSP credentialing opportunities to Direct Support Professionals in New York State. This is a nationally recognized credential, and you will have the opportunity to receive it for free.

Springbrook and SUNY Oneonta have partnered to provide tuition-free DSP Credentialing through this program. This program is designed to provide knowledge about human services – specifically, working with families and individuals with developmental disabilities.

There are two credentials—DSP I and DSP II

  • DSP I Micro-Credential includes the following courses:
    • Introduction to Human Services (3 Credits)
    • Professional Writing (1 Credit)
    • $750 Incentive
    • Springbrook will provide a pay increase upon completion of each credential level
  • DSP II Micro-Credential includes the following courses:
    • Helping Skills in Human Services (3 Credits)
    • Case Management (3 Credits)
    • Cultural Competency (1 Credit)
    • $750 Incentive
    • Springbrook will provide a pay increase upon completion of each credential level

You can begin classes toward your credential before the end of May (Summer 2023 Session). Employees enrolled in this program will attend 2 classes each week for 12 weeks. In-classroom courses will be held at the Oneonta Campus. Other classes will be hybrid (meeting in-person and remotely), as well as asynchronous (fully online).

In addition to being tuition-free, employees in this program will be paid for the time they are in in-person classroom courses. Take your first step toward DSP Credentialing today!

Required Courses

Basic Skills (Required – 6 credits)
COMP 1000 – Composition (3 credits)
CSCI 1000 – Introduction to Computing Technology (3 credits)

Human Development (Required – 3 credits)
HDFS 1000 – Children in Families (3 credits)

Electives – Pick TWO for 6 total credits
EPSY 3029 – Survey of the Exceptional Child or comparable course
HDFS 3200 – Helping Skills in Human Services
HDFS 3570 – Group Work in Human Services

Take the first STEP into your education with Springbrook’s Training & Education Program. 

Springbrook STEP is now offering a tuition-free DSP Human Services Education Program through SUNY Oneonta. This program is designed to provide knowledge about human services – specifically, working with families and individuals with developmental disabilities.

This program includes 5 classes (15 credits) that provide knowledge to employees working in the Human Services field; and can use the credits earned toward a degree program. Classes begin at the end of May (Summer 2023 Session). Employees enrolled in this program will attend 2 classes each week for 15 weeks. Classes will be held on either the Main Campus or Oneonta Campus.

In addition to being tuition-free, employees in this program will be considered working and will be clocked in during the scheduled classes. So you will be PAID to go to school!

Upon successful completion of the program, employees will receive a $.50/hr increase!
