Since receiving services at Springbrook, the O’Brien’s son, Jack, has made incredible strides. “He communicates better with us and seems happier with a structured schedule,” his parents shared. Jack’s days are filled with access to music rooms, gym time, therapeutic equipment, and a safe and comfortable environment at Taylor House, where he resides.
The O’Brien family is especially grateful for the welcoming environment created for families. “We always feel very welcome when we visit the school, and we also enjoyed the Family Engagement Center. It’s a beautiful addition that allows parents to stay overnight on campus.”

Making history since 1924.
Explore key moments in Springbrook’s history—from Upstate Baptist Home for Children in 1924, opening a residential school in 1960, and a preschool in 1992, to changing our name to Springbrook in 2005, expanding community-based supports in 2014, and purchasing commercial real estate in 2021.
Upstate Baptist Home for Children was established in 1924. It served 17 children. From 1958 to 1960, we closed the orphanage, evaluating priorities and discovering our purpose.
In 1960, a residential school facility was established to care for people with disabilities, with the residential school building opening just 16 years later. Community Homes in Oneonta, Portlandville, Worcester, and Otego opened throughout 1973–1991.
The Upstate Home for Children Foundation was established.
In 1992, what will be known as Kids Unlimited Preschool (KUP) was established on our main campus. KUP is the first integrated preschool in New York State.
HCBS waiver established small Individualized Residential Alternatives (IRAs). We now have IRAs in five counties.
Our name officially changed to Springbrook!
In 2006, CSS Self-Direction was piloted, currently known as Self-Directed Services (SDS), and expanded to Binghamton, NY. 2010 marked the beginning of our organization being governed by our Board of Directors. Meet our leadership team! The Coming Home campaign was completed, establishing the Golisano expansion at The School at Springbrook and the purchase of the Oneonta Campus in 2012. This purchase consolidated Human Resources, Quality Assurance, Training, DayHab, and preschool.
Springbrook continued to grow throughout 2014–2021 with the addition of Supported Employment and Community-Based Supports and the purchase of Century Sunrise in 2016. Southern Tier Connect was established as 1 of 7 CCOs in New York State. Offering services in 14 counties and offices in Oneonta, Binghamton, Cortland, Hamden, Ithaca, and Norwich. In 2021, the Ford on Main was purchased in Oneonta, NY. This purchase developed 24 apartments within the community.
