On Monday, May 22, the inaugural class of the Springbrook Training & Education Program (STEP) arrived for the first day of class on Main Campus. STEP is a cohort-based, in-person learning opportunity in collaboration with SUNY Oneonta. This Springbrook program is tuition-free and intended to provide educational opportunities to Direct Support Professionals at Springbrook who have faced obstacles to traditional attendance towards their degree, including scheduling and personal finances.
Scholars will meet twice a week at a Springbrook location for the first 15-week session, from late May through July, and receive paid release time from regular work responsibilities. The STEP class of 2024 includes 25 scholars, with staff members from across Springbrook’s programs, including Community Homes, Capstone Day Habilitation, employment services, dietary services, and The School at Springbrook. We are so excited to see what the STEP scholars achieve, and we wish them luck for their first week of classes!
