A few weeks ago, we had the pleasure of visiting Crouse Community Center, a nursing home located in Morrisville, New York. During our visit, we had the opportunity to meet Corey, who left a lasting impression on us. Today, Corey is responsible for cleaning 22 rooms in the A and B wings of the 120-bed nursing home; when Corey first started his career three years ago, he began with six rooms. Corey’s confidence has grown exponentially thanks to his career coach, confidant, and Springbrook Self-Directed Services employee, Mary.

Mary has helped Corey in his position at Crouse, where he changes linens, sweeps, mops, and removes garbage from the 22 rooms. In three years, Corey has successfully managed to alleviate his anxiety and establish great relationships with the residents and staff members at Crouse. As he walks through the hallways, residents greet him with a friendly hello or engage him in a conversation about their day. Katherine, who serves as Corey’s supervisor and manages the facilities department, is both understanding and encouraging of Corey’s needs.

After a few unsuccessful and anxiety-ridden months working in the kitchens at Crouse, Katherine is delighted to have Corey back on the maintenance team. During our visit to Crouse Community Center, we were deeply impressed by Corey’s growth and dedication toward his work, in addition to the positive impact that he has had on the nursing home and its residents. Overall, our visit to Crouse Community Center was a heartwarming experience, and we are grateful for the opportunity to have met Corey, Mary and Katherine.
