This Take a Look Tuesday, we are excited to share a story of SDS participant Howard Struble. On Friday, October 1, at the Southern Tier Independence Center in Binghamton, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand called out for historic investment in home and community-based services (HCBS) through the Better Care, Better Jobs Act. Howard, seen in the video with the red sweatshirt, lives at Century Sunrise in Johnson City and chooses Self-Directed Services through Springbrook. Howard was there to advocate for himself and others for an increase in funds for caregivers and at-home healthcare. At this event, Howard discussed his concerns with the Senator: “We need this because I don’t want to have to depend on living in a nursing home.” He continued, “You can’t be independent if you’re living in an assisted facility. We need to be on our own, we need to feel independent, we need to feel wanted and needed.” Howard is an excellent advocate for himself and others, and with your support, we can make a positive difference. So take part and like and share this news report today! #BetterCareBetterJobs #TakeALookTuesday #SpringbrookNY
