105 Campus Drive, Oneonta, NY 13820
Oneonta, New York: Springbrook, a leading provider of supports for people with special needs, will host the Springbrook Invitational Special Olympics Basketball Tournament on Saturday, March 21, from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm.
The Springbrook Invitational will mark the third time in the organization’s history that it has hosted a Special Olympics tournament. With the 2012 completion of the $22.5 million expansion of The School at Springbrook on the main campus, as well as the purchase of the former Saint Mary’s School building in Oneonta, the organization now has two regulation-size, state-of-the-art gymnasiums, enabling the Springbrook Scorpions basketball team to host its largest tournament yet, which features 12 teams.
Following opening ceremonies in the morning, the teams will break into pairing games and skills matches. The games will take place at The School at Springbrook, 105 Campus Drive, Oneonta (just off Hwy. 28), and Springbrook’s Community Campus, located at 5588 State Hwy. 7, Oneonta (next to Brooks’ BBQ). This event is free and open to the public.
The Scorpions basketball team has been highly successful in Special Olympics tournaments this year, regularly taking home Silver and Gold medals. At their recent tournament at Somers Middle School in Lincolndale, New York, several members of the Scorpions Skills Team placed first and second. Last year, during the Invitational Tournament, the Springbrook Scorpions took on two other teams, the Saratoga Wildcats and Pathfinder Village, and they were able to secure both Gold and Silver medals for their efforts.
Springbrook would like to thank this year’s sponsors, Bill and Karen Mirabito, for their generosity. Tournament sponsors and Springbrook CEO, Patricia Kennedy, will take part in opening ceremonies as well as present awards at closing ceremonies. This event is free and open to the public.
