Springbrook Scorpions Host Special Olympics Basketball Invitational

The Springbrook Scorpions are proud to announce that they will host the Fifth Annual Springbrook Special Olympics Basketball Invitational on Saturday, March 11. Athletes and coaches alike have been working hard to prepare for this popular event, and this year is shaping up to be one of the best on record.

This round-robin style tournament will consist of nine teams, with athletes from Edmeston, Genesee Valley, Saratoga, Broome County, and Onondaga County, as well as Springbrook’s own Varsity and Junior Varsity teams. In addition to the traditional tournament style play, the Springbrook Scorpions Skills team will demonstrate their basketball proficiencies for those who attend the tournament.

Games will be held at Springbrook’s Main Campus, as well as Springbrook’s Community Campus, with an opening ceremony commencing at 9:00 am in the gymnasium on the Main Campus. Due to the high volume of participants this year, teams will be separated into divisions and will compete accordingly. Division 1 and Division 2 teams, as well as the Skills team, will compete at Springbrook’s Main Campus. Division 3 teams will compete at Springbrook’s Community Campus. Medal ceremonies will follow the tournaments at their respective locations.

Nicole Valentine-Sokolowski, Special Education Teacher, and Athletic Coordinator had this to say: “The tournament gives athletes the opportunity to showcase the amazing talents they possess. They take so much pride in what they do and it is extremely rewarding to be a part of something like this.” This event is open to the public.

The Springbrook Special Olympics program is made possible thanks to the generous support of donors and partners who give to make a difference in the lives of people with developmental disabilities.
