Springbrook, a leader in the support, care, and education of people with developmental disabilities, will host Darcy Trimpe, PhD—Regional Medical Specialist for Assurex Health—for a presentation titled “Clinical Applications of Psychiatric Pharmacogenomics.” The presentation will inform those who attend on DNA testing and its applications for medication management in individuals with behavioral health conditions.

On Tuesday, December 12, 2017, at 8:30 am, local mental health providers, primary care providers, registered nurses, and psychologists will gather in the new Family Engagement Center on Springbrook’s Main Campus, in Oneonta, NY. Trimpe will share information about GeneSight—a method of genomic testing which has been clinically proven to aide in the selection of medications used to treat a wide variety of mental health issues, including but not limited to anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia.

Katherine Ramiza, Chief Clinical Officer at Springbrook said “We are thrilled to host this educational event. Targeting best pharmaceutical therapy to individuals with difficult to manage mental health issues can be as simple as swabbing a cheek!”

Trimpe holds an impressive set of credentials, including a master’s degree in Counseling Psychology as well as a PhD in Biological Sciences with an emphasis in neurobiology from Western Michigan University. Prior to receiving both her Master’s and Doctorate degrees, Trimpe worked as a medical hypnotherapist. It was the work she did with her patients—who struggled with a wide variety of mental illness—that lead Trimpe to pursue more advanced certifications. The acquisition of her Master’s degree, and ultimately her Doctorate, was motivated by a desire to increase her own understanding of science and it’s applications in medicine.

Those who wish to attend the presentation—which is free and open to all regional healthcare professionals—should RSVP to Andrew Newton of Assurex Health, by Tuesday, December 5, 2017 either by email at anewton@assurexhealth.com, or by phone at (315) 729-3690.
