Family Engagement Center To Open July 20, 2017

On Thursday, July 20, 2017, at 4:00 pm, families, residents, administrators, and several of the organization’s key supporters will gather to celebrate the opening of the new Family Engagement Center on Springbrook’s Main Campus, in Oneonta, NY. The construction of the Family Engagement Center is just one more example of Springbrook’s commitment to enhancing the quality of life for people with developmental disabilities.

Currently, there are 230 people—70 on the Main Campus as part of the School at Springbrook Residential Program and 160 in the adult Community Homes—who receive residential support through Springbrook. This means that these individuals live in a home that is staffed 24/7 by Springbrook employees.

The families of Springbrook residents are from more than 30 counties across New York State. Each family has made the difficult decision to trust the organization to provide a lifetime of support to their family member. The Family Engagement Center is a home away from home for families, advocates, and friends who travel from across the state and country to see their loved ones. This new space is a safe, supported, and convenient area for families to visit, reconnect, and make memories.

The Family Engagement Center was 100% donor funded and is one of many projects that are part of the Springbrook 2020 Strategic Plan. The Springbrook 2020 Strategic Plan and ongoing financial support from donors and foundations provide Springbrook with the means necessary to continue achieving the level of excellence that the organization is known for. Springbrook’s CEO, Patricia Kennedy, says, “We are thrilled to be opening the Family Engagement Center, and we cannot wait to see it put to use. As our organization expands, we remain committed to family in any form—whether it is friends, parents, siblings, grandparents, aunts, or uncles. We are proud to have this building on our campus, and we are thankful to the partners, donors, and supporters who made it possible.”

The ribbon cutting ceremony will be followed by an afternoon of family based activities, including a Fun Run/Walk and an evening movie screening in the new building. The Fun Run is open to the public and will serve as a fundraiser for the organization, with registration fees—$20 for individuals or $80 for groups of up to six—helping to support future programming within the Family Engagement Center. Individuals interested in running the exciting 5K (with two 900 ft climbs!) or walking the fully accessible 1-mile loop, can register online by clicking here.
