Springbrook will be hosting a groundbreaking ceremony to commemorate the start of construction on its newest facility, the Springbrook Family Engagement Center.
On Saturday, June 18, 2016, at 1:30 pm, Springbrook’s leadership team, Board of Directors, and several of the organization’s families and supporters will gather to celebrate the groundbreaking of the new Family Engagement Center on Springbrook’s Main Campus, in Oneonta, NY. Following the ceremony, guests are invited to stay and enjoy an Ice Cream Social.
Springbrook serves more than 850 families from across New York State. 151 adults and 74 youth, ages 5-21, receive residential support; meaning, they live in a certified setting that is staffed by Springbrook employees 24/7. These certified settings are the residents’ home—places where they live, play, and learn. Springbrook’s families, which hail from more than 30 counties across the state, have made the difficult decision to entrust the organization with providing lifetime support. The Family Engagement Center is intended to be a place that goes above and beyond to provide a safe, private, and comfortable setting where families who travel from long distances will be able to visit with their loved ones. It will also offer family members or advocates a place to stay as they complete the emotionally and mentally taxing admissions process, which can sometimes last for days. Springbrook parent and Board member, Dr. Jerry Pondolfino, explains that it will be “a place that can serve as a home-away-from-home for every Springbrook family, near and far…a place to enjoy the simplicity of family life—a meal together, a favorite movie, a place where mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, aunts, and uncles can connect…” He continues, “Simply put, this building is a dream come true for the many families that Springbrook supports.”
This Family Engagement Center is part of the Springbrook 2020 Strategic Plan, which is made possible through the financial support of the organization’s ongoing Comprehensive Campaign: Today, Tomorrow, Together. The campaign is comprised of three parts—the Springbrook Annual Fund, Springbrook Endowment, and the Capital Project—all of which provide Springbrook with the means necessary to continue achieving the level of excellence that the organization is known for. Springbrook’s CEO, Patricia Kennedy, says, “Families are always at the forefront of our decision-making process, and I am excited about this new space, which will allow us to further that exchange of ideas and achieve great things together.”
The Groundbreaking Ceremony will take place following The School at Springbrook’s 11:00 am graduation and family lunch, held at The School’s gymnasium, also located on the organization’s Main Campus in Oneonta. This year’s graduating class of 16 students is the largest in Springbrook’s history. A class of this size presents extra challenges for the organization as it works to uphold the commitment of lifetime support and the Family Engagement Center will allow families of future graduating classes to be nearby while they help their young loved ones decide what they would like for their futures.
