Special Education Positions
Job descriptions give a basic overview of some of the opportunities available at Springbrook. More details and requirements will be provided during the application process.
Special Education Teacher
- As a Special Educator at Springbrook you will have a unique opportunity to create and implement new and imaginative programs.
- Provide comprehensive educational services and intervention to assure that the educational needs of all individuals enrolled in their classroom are being addressed.
- Provide continuity of activities and services to individuals by planning, organizing, directing, and managing classroom activities.
- Provide supervision to all non-exempt classroom personnel.
- Strong organizational as well as written and oral communication skills are necessary in working with individualized IEP development and goals.
- Traditional 10-month school calendar with an optional 6-week summer session.
- New York State teacher certification required. Special education certification is also required, however, Springbrook will consider teachers who are working towards special education certification.
Teacher Assistant
- Teacher Assistants are members of the education team, responsible for the general supervision of and assistance to students.
- Assist students in all aspects of daily activities whether educational, personal, medical or recreational.
- Supervise students at all times while affording them opportunities for independence, meaningful choices, maintaining and increasing productivity, community experiences.
- Assist classroom team in completing documentation that includes attendance, plans, scheduling, behavior reviews, etc.
- Responsible for educational programming as directed by the teacher or therapist.
- Lead and manage the classroom team during teacher absences.
- Demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of the instruction process, evaluations, data collection, assessments, team building, theme planning, behavioral management, etc.
- Implement lesson plans, as outlined in the plan book or as directed by the teacher.
- Provide an attractive, safe, clean, organized and healthy environment that is conducive to learning.
- Maintain a quality program by performing other related duties as necessary.
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs independently and assist in lifting weights exceeding 50lbs, providing consistent intensive personal care.
- Utilize SCIP (Strategies for Crisis Intervention & Prevention) as needed.
- Participate in recreational activities including swimming.
- Certification is required or the ability and desire to attain Teacher Assistant certification within the designated time frame.
Classroom Aide
- Provide supervision and assistance to multiply handicapped children and adolescents by implementing daily lesson plans.
- Increase independence and provide for meaningful choice by giving useful input into program planning, behavioral changes, recreation and daily care.
- Assure the safety and well being of the students by maintaining supervision of residents at all times.
- Provide a clean, safe and sanitary environment by cleaning, organizing students belongings neatly, and picking up clutter when necessary.
