The Educational Program

At Springbrook, we recognize that every student has their own set of skills, abilities, interests, strengths and weakness. Although developmental disabilities influence the ability to learn, every student has the potential to discover and grow.

The School at Springbrook applies a trans-disciplinary approach to all students by involving parents, school districts, special education teachers, house managers and therapists in the development of each student's individualized education program. Our trans-disciplinary approach provides student-centered, individualized educational programs, allowing continued development through their lives and ensures learning and consistency across environments.

The educational program applies teaching and learning methodologies that are based in a  positive behavioral support model.  The program for students in elementary classrooms has a staffing ratio of 6:1:3.5 which include one certified master level teacher, one certified teacher assistant and direct support professionals. The elementary program focuses on functional academics, social skill development, and daily living skills.  The middle school age program focuses on functional academics, social skill development and pre-vocational learning opportunities.  The program for students age 16 and over has a staffing ratio of 8:1:2, including one certified master level teacher, one certified teacher assistant, one direct support professional and two job coaches. This program focuses on functional academics, life skill development and transition/vocational learning and training opportunities.

All special educators plan content based lessons that reflects the New York State Learning Standards.
